Why choose Ashton FC for girls’ football?
Founded in 1994, Ashton FC has been at the heart of grassroots football in South Bristol for more than 30 years. You can read the full story of how the club grew from 14 players to almost 40 teams on our About Us page.
Since launching our girls’ section in 2014, we’ve grown into one of the largest clubs competing in the Bristol Girls League and are now proud to be one of Bristol’s biggest community football clubs, with almost 40 teams across boys’, girls’ and adult football.
Our success isn’t measured purely by results. It’s measured by the smiles on matchdays, the confidence our players gain, the friendships they build and the lifelong love of football they develop.
When your daughter joins Ashton FC, she’ll benefit from:
- Teams competing across multiple age groups in the Bristol Girls League
- Development squads for younger players beginning their football journey
- A complete pathway from junior football through to Under 18s and our Women’s team
- FA-affiliated coaches and qualified safeguarding officers
- A welcoming, inclusive club where enjoyment and development come first
- High-quality training and match venues across South Bristol
- A volunteer-led, not-for-profit community club built around respect, teamwork and opportunity
Whether your daughter dreams of playing competitively or simply wants to have fun with friends every week, there’s a place for her at Ashton FC.
A complete girls’ football pathway
One of the biggest reasons families choose Ashton FC is our commitment to long-term player development. Rather than moving clubs every few years, girls can enjoy a continuous football journey as they progress through each age group alongside teammates they’ve grown up playing with.
Our pathway includes:
- Under 6s through to Under 18s
- Development opportunities at younger ages
- Competitive football within the Bristol Girls League
- A natural progression into our Women’s First Team competing in the Somerset County Women’s League
This long-term pathway allows players to develop their football ability, confidence, leadership skills and friendships in one supportive environment.

New to football? You’re more than welcome
One of the questions we’re asked most often is:
“My daughter has never played football before. Can she still join?”
Absolutely. Many of our players arrive having never kicked a football. Our coaches understand that everyone develops at their own pace and focus on building confidence, enjoyment and fundamental skills before anything else.
There’s no pressure. Just encouragement, support and plenty of opportunities to make friends while learning the game.
Equally, if your daughter already plays football and is looking for a new challenge, our competitive teams provide an excellent environment to continue developing.
How to join Ashton Football Club
Joining couldn’t be easier.
Most teams invite prospective players to attend a couple of taster sessions before making any commitment, giving both parents and players the opportunity to experience the club first-hand.
Simply send us a new player enquiry and include your daughter’s:
- Name
- School year
- Age
- Area you live
We’ll introduce you to the appropriate team manager. They’ll arrange a taster training session and answer any questions you may have. If you’d rather see who runs each side first, every manager is listed in our team directory.
Most recruitment takes place during the spring and summer ahead of the new season in September, but we welcome enquiries throughout the year and many teams can accommodate new players mid-season.
Affordable grassroots football
Ashton FC is a not-for-profit community football club run entirely by dedicated volunteers.
Annual subscriptions vary slightly between teams and contribute towards:
- League registration
- Training facilities
- Match pitches
- Referees
- Club administration
- Playing kit
We firmly believe football should be accessible to everyone.
If cost is a concern, please contact us confidentially before deciding not to join. We’ll always do our best to help and never want finances to become a barrier to playing football.
Safeguarding comes first
Providing a safe, positive environment for every player is at the heart of everything we do.
Every Ashton FC coach and manager is FA-affiliated and DBS checked, while our dedicated Safeguarding Officer and Head of Female Football ensure the highest standards are maintained across every age group. Our full safeguarding and welfare policies are published on the website, alongside our code of conduct for parents and code of conduct for players.
Parents can have complete confidence that their daughter is joining a club where welfare, respect and enjoyment always come first.
