About us
Ashton Football club
MANY TEAMS, ONE CLUB
Ashton Football Club has been at the heart of the community since its founding in 1994 by Terry Hazel, a local football legend. Over the past three decades, the club has grown from humble beginnings—a single team of 14 young players training at Greville Smyth Park—to a thriving organization with nearly 40 teams and over 600 registered players.
Our Mission
Our mission is simple: to provide access to grassroots football for players of all ages, fostering a love for the game while promoting teamwork, inclusivity, and personal development.
From young children taking their first steps in football to adults enjoying the sport, Ashton FC offers a welcoming environment for everyone.
Youth Development
The boys’ youth section is a cornerstone of our club, with teams spanning U7 to U11 competing in the Hanham Minor Leagues and U12 to U16 playing in the Avon Youth League. Matches are held on Sundays, and we currently have around 380 boys registered with the club, a number that continues to grow. Our thriving Under 18s program has expanded to two teams competing in the Somerset Under 18s League.
Ashton Girls has been a standout success since its revival in 2014. Now boasting approximately 170 girls, the program caters to players from reception year through Year 12. This year, we are proud to field 10 teams in the Bristol Girls League and launch our first-ever Under 18s Girls team.
Women’s and Future Men’s Sections
The newly established Women’s section has rapidly gained popularity, with around 25 members playing in the Somerset County Women’s League. Plans are in motion to reintroduce a Men’s adult section in the future, ensuring football opportunities continue to expand across all demographics.
Venues and Events
Our matches are played at four cherished locations:
- Greville Smyth Park, the spiritual home of Ashton FC.
- Ashton Park School, offering brilliant facilities and continued support.
- Bedminster Cricket Club’s Clanage Ground, providing excellent facilities and social space with a bar open on match days.
- Bristol Cathedral Choir School Sports Fields in Failand, offering a superb playing environment.
Each year, we host the Ashton FC Tournament at Greville Smyth Park, a highlight of the local football calendar. Our season concludes with a grand Club Awards Presentation at Ashton Gate, celebrating the achievements of players, coaches, and teams. The club also embraces the tradition of football tours, encouraging teams to organize trips to various destinations to strengthen bonds and create unforgettable experiences.
A Community-Driven Future
Ashton Football Club is more than just a football club; it is a community built on passion, dedication, and a shared love for the game. As we continue to grow, we remain committed to creating opportunities for everyone to enjoy football and be part of something special.
